What it’s Like to Market a Product Before it Exists
Hi there. I’m Stephanie, the content marketer for Bitzag. I’ve made videos and run our social media pages. I think of myself as the product evangelist over here, trying to get the word out about the good things going on with development. As we prepare to launch two new products, and an all-new update of minimarks, I thought I’d reflect on what it’s been like to create content for products that don’t “exist” yet.
Posting While No One’s Listening
I’ve been making posts for months and not getting a whole lot of love. Every like brightens my day, knowing that someone saw our product and was willing to give a like. Comments are even better, hearing excitement from our users or even the general population makes me believe that building these apps are worth it.
But for the most part, I’m posting while no one is listening. I eagerly check the metrics and see if we get any sort of engagement and sometimes we get a couple, but never too much. And our exposure is limited in general.
As we launch the products, I look forward to showing live apps that people are using and learning from user feedback. I’m looking forward to longer demo videos and hopefully a little more engagement. I’ve gotten the ball rolling, now its time to pick up steam and let everyone know about how incredible the Bitzag Suite is.
Making Videos and Finding Bugs Along the Way
One of the side benefits of making content while in development is you discover bugs. You can’t show a feature if it’s not working properly, and it’s come up a few times that somethings totally bugging, or just a little glitchy.
You have two choices: work around the bug, or report it and wait to have it fixed before you can create your demo video. I’ve found it’s better to let Seb know that things are glitching on my end. Sometimes it’s my system, sometimes there’s just a simple refresh needed, or sometimes the bug is legit.
Over the months of pre-promotion I’ve showcased dozens of features. Most of them worked flawlessly from the jump, but in a few cases, I found bugs. I’m on the content side of things but it’s fun to get to be a part of development and have an impact on getting the apps ready for push.
Watching it all Come Together
When I began marketing the new apps, it started small. Basic features and products that hadn’t yet found their full potential, or even reached “MVP”. Over the months as they’ve developed, I’ve watched them become full fledged, quality applications that I can excitedly promote.
As the months have gone by, the features stack and showing how they work has become more layered. I hope it gets potential users as engaged as I am about the upcoming launches and beyond.
I hope you’ll join us on the journey of launching Kanbase and Stickxy, along the all-new minimarks update. It’s been a long ride and marketing them before they “exist” has been an interesting challenge to say the least. But It’s been important to get the word out about all the behind the scenes action thats been in the works. We’re about to come out strong and bring products that are ready to use and powerful.
